Relative Social Value

Inspiring minds and driving digital value for our future engineers

We know the resonance of creating positive social impact, not only within our local community but also within our industry. Our passion for fostering meaningful change has driven us to address the pressing issue of the skills gap in the HVAC and controls sector.

To bring our vision to life, we sought to collaborate with educational institutions, and our partnership with Salford College City Campus has been nothing short of transformative. Together, we are proud to support their HVAC and M&E Department, empowering students and lecturers alike to embark on a journey that puts building controls at the forefront.

By actively engaging with Salford College, we have taken proactive steps to pave the way for a future where talented individuals can enter the HVAC and controls industry with the proper knowledge and skills. Our joint efforts aim to bridge the gap between education and real-world practice, preparing students to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to our dynamic field.

A word from our founder, Samuel Evans:

"We extend heartfelt gratitude to Greg Derbyshire and Ian Ledger for their invaluable support in driving digital and NetZero culture changes within the industry and integrating them into technical higher education. Their advocacy has been instrumental in shaping our commitment to empowering a younger generation of engineers.

Having cherished my formative years as a young electrical engineer at Salford Colleges, I embarked on a transformative journey that provided invaluable life lessons and technical excellence, expanding my skills and igniting my passion for the industry.

My personal experience is a testament to the power of nurturing young talent. It is this very experience that drives our dedication to providing similar opportunities for aspiring young engineers and innovators.

We invite other businesses to join us in supporting these industry advocates, recognising that investing in our youth is not just an obligation but a pathway to a brighter future. Together, let's champion technical education, drive innovation, and create a legacy of excellence for generations to come."

What were our goals?

Net zero and digital challenges
in the HVAC sector

We were determined to ensure that this social value project extended beyond local communities and made a significant impact in the broader industry. The core focus was on introducing building management systems and digital culture changes within the HVAC domain to young engineers. We wanted to raise awareness about these technologies and lay the foundation for a deeper understanding of their concepts and fundamental practices.

Our objectives included:

  • Making students aware of advanced systems and platforms relevant to the industry.
  • Building their confidence in working with these systems effectively.
  • Developing a better understanding of HVAC and controls fundamentals.
  • Emphasizing safety and good working practices.
  • Enhancing their ability to identify and resolve faults in control systems with fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Providing training in electrical wiring for control systems.
  • Encouraging technical innovations and creative problem-solving.
  • Inspiring a culture of innovation and creativity among aspiring engineers.

Collaboration with industry partners

Partnering with industry suppliers and contractors

Before undertaking this project, we recognised the importance of leveraging the strong relationships we had cultivated with our suppliers and partners. As we celebrate these valuable collaborations, we extend our gratitude to the following suppliers, who are not merely vendors but true business partners. Without their support and expertise, Synchro would struggle to remain at the forefront of innovation with our traditional services and solutions.

Alpha Controls Specialist Ltd was pivotal in providing overall specialist BEMS (Building Energy Management Systems) electrical installation. Their dedication to championing better skills within the electrical industry, particularly through commercial and industrial-focused training, has been instrumental in enhancing our capabilities.

S&S Northern Ltd has been a trusted partner, supplying their latest and highly sought-after Boiler House Guard solution - BH1000. This comprehensive package includes gas solenoid valves, gas detection sensors, and tailored training for lectures, focusing on safe practices within boiler rooms and plant rooms.

The collaborative efforts of these suppliers have significantly enriched our ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions to our clients. We are proud to work alongside such innovative and forward-thinking companies, and their contributions have been invaluable in driving the success of our project.
